Dermatologist Dr Peter Frederiksen has been recognised for his contributions to the specialty in the Australia Day Honours.

The Sydney-based doctor was among nearly two dozen specialists included in the 2024 honours list, having received the Order of Australia Medal (OAM).

Dr Frederiksen has amassed more than 35 years of experience in the field, serving patients both in Sydney and the NSW region more broadly.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Sydney, Dr Frederiksen went on to set up the clinic Hornsby Dermatology in 1997 in the northern suburb of Sydney of the same name.

He has also been director of the Skin Hospital in Darlinghurst, a world-class  teaching and research facility providing leading-edge treatments, since 2014.

Since early on in his career, Dr Frederiksen has also dedicated his time to providing services as a visiting medical officer at Hornsby Kuringai Hospital, as well as regional hospitals Bourke Hospital and Brewarrina Hospital.

His regional trips via the Royal Flying Doctor Service have ensured access to dermatological care for patients in these communities for three decades.
