the limbic is an editorially independent publication for healthcare professionals. It delivers the latest news and expert insight relevant to your specialty in an easy to read online format.
Our news covers research from peer-reviewed journals as well as medical conferences at home and overseas. We also write in-depth features on clinical and medico-political issues that are relevant to your practice and offer insight and perspective pieces from thought leaders across the globe.
Who runs the limbic?
We are a bunch of passionate journalists with extensive backgrounds in health publishing and medical journalism.
Nicola Garrett is the co-founder and Editorial Director of the limbic and is an experienced health journalist who is passionate about reporting on evidence-based medicine for healthcare professionals. Nicola has contributed to publications in Australia, the UK and the US including ABC Science, ABC Health and Well Being, Australian Doctor, Rheumatology News, EULAR congress news and Nature Journals. Michael Woodhead is editor of the limbic and has worked as a medical reporter and editor for more than 20 years. Trained as a pharmacologist in the UK, he switched to medical journalism in London, writing for titles such as Pulse and GP magazines. After relocating to Australia he has been a staff writer and editor with Australian Doctor and Medical Observer, and contributed to publications including the Sydney Morning Herald and BMJ. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Michael also runs a Chinese health news website and spends a few weeks each year trekking and cycling in southwest China. Follow him on twitter @mpwoodhead
Mardi Chapman is an experienced medical writer who has worked both as a journalist and in PR roles promoting health and medical research. She has a background in medical science but swapped a lab coat for a laptop many years ago. Tessa Hoffman started her career in journalism in 2008 with News Corp’s Leader Community Newspapers, where she spent seven years and was named Reporter of the Year in 2011. She spent two years with the Australian Doctor Group working as a senior journalist covering political news for Australian Doctor and Pharmacy News before joining the limbic in 2017. John Griffith is a co-founder and Partnership Director of the limbic and has worked in the health publishing industry for the past eight years. John works with industry partners, not-for-profit organisations and associations to create the advertising campaigns that run on the limbic.

From time to time we host non-intrusive adverts and clearly labeled educational content from the pharmaceutical industry. Content that has been written by or for a sponsor will be acknowledged in the following way:
Why do I need to give you my details?
We need to verify that you are a healthcare professional so that we comply with Medicines Australia Code of Conduct. We will not share your personal information with any third party and your data is held securely.
Am I going to be bombarded with emails?
No. We send a weekly newsletter with a round up of the weeks top stories. You will never receive an email from any one other than the limbic.
