Hundreds of people who bought Nurofen’s pain range will soon be compensated for each packet, following a class action.

Reckitt Benckiser (Australia) Pty Ltd will pay $3.5 million plus costs into a fund for distribution to eligible group members after the class action was settled this week, confirmed law firm Bannister Law which brought the lawsuit.

It comes after the manufacturer was fined $6 million for misleading consumers over the pain relief range which consisted of Nurofen Back Pain, Nurofen Period Pain, and Nurofen Migraine and Tension Headache products.

This was after the ACCC successfully argued that Reckitt Benckiser had used false and misleading labelling for these products, which were labelled to treat the specific types of pain despite containing the same active ingredient ibuprofen lysine 342mg.

Under the settlement, consumers will be paid $3.16 for each 12 pack and $5.70 for each 24 pack bought between 2011 and 2015, a spokesman for Bannister Law said.

Some 1700 people who have joined the class action so far.
