Professor Fabienne Mackay of the University of Melbourne has worked for many years on what causes lupus and through that work the resulting medicine, belimumab, became the first ever targeted biological for the treatment of SLE patients with active, autoantibody-positive disease.

In the latest episode of the university’s Eavesdrop on Experts podcasts she discusses the connection between diet and autoimmunity, and the important role of the gut microbiome in driving autoimmune diseases such as lupus.
