If you’re thinking about conducting research into COPD you may want to take a look at this joint statement from the American Thoracic Society and the European Respiratory Society on the research questions that still need answering.

Great strides have been made in the diagnosis, assessment, and management of COPD as well as understanding its pathogenesis, the statement says.

But despite this many important questions remain unanswered.

“This ATS/ERS research statement highlights the types of research that leading clinicians and researchers believe will have the greatest impact on outcomes, including studies that determine the impact of COPD-related clinical practice guidelines on outcomes in patients with COPD,” it says.
