The Royal Melbourne Hospital has been named among the top 30 hospitals for neurology in the world and the best in Australia.
The World’s Best Specialised Hospital Ranking [link here] by American magazine Newsweek and global data gathering firm Statista ranked the hospital at number 24 for the specialty.
The top three hospitals were all based in the US.
- Mayo Clinic – Rochester, Minnesota
- Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts
- Cleveland Clinic, Ohio
The next ‘best’ Australian hospital to feature on the list was the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, which just missed out on the top 100.

- Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne (24)
- Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney (105)
- Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney (108)
- Monash Medical Centre, Melbourne (118)
- Austin Hospital, Melbourne (124)
The rankings covered the best facilities across 12 different specialties.
These included the top 300 hospitals for cardiology and oncology, the top 250 for paediatrics, the top 150 in each specialty of cardiac surgery, endocrinology, and gastroenterology, the top 125 in each for neurology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, pulmonology, and urology and the top 100 for obstetrics and gynecology.
The ranking was based on hospital recommendations from medical professionals, publicly available hospital quality metrics, patient experience data and a voluntary patient-reported outcome survey.
