New President for Diabetes Australia

Dr Michael Stanford

A former hospital administrator, Dr Michael Stanford, has been appointed the new Independent President/Board Chair of Diabetes Australia.

Dr Stanford has had a long career in healthcare leadership and management as a CEO and Managing Director of private healthcare organisations.

From 2002 to 2018 he oversaw major expansion of the Catholic not-for-profit group St John of God Health Care.

According to Diabetes Australia, Dr Stanford also has significant boardroom experience across health services, diagnostics, clinical trials, aged care, higher education, the arts, leadership development, and industry bodies.

“Dr Stanford has a medical background and great understanding of the healthcare ecosystem, extensive CEO experience of very large healthcare organisations that operated in multiple states across the public, for profit, and for purpose sectors,” said DA in a statement.

“These included endocrinology and diabetes service provision, education and research as well as various Chronic Disease Management initiatives.”

As well as his role with Diabetes Australia, Dr Stanford currently holds non-executive director roles with Virtus Health, a leading Assisted Reproductive Services provider in Australia and other countries; and Nucleus Network – Australia’s leading Phase One Clinical Trial Centre.
