A yoghurt a day may keep type 2 diabetes at bay. The large study of health care professionals found total dairy consumption made no difference to type 2 diabetes risk. However when the results were analyzed with more recent studies a 28g serving of yogurt each day was associated with an 18 per cent lower risk of type 2 diabetes. The anti-oxidant and lipid lowering effects of probiotics found in yogurt may explain the reduced risk
