Researchers have identified a number of risk factors associated with an increased risk of infective endocarditis after transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

The study published in JAMA using data from an international registry found that younger age, male gender, history of diabetes and moderate to severe aortic regurgitation were significantly associated with an increased risk of infective endocarditis.

Patients who developed endocarditis had high rates of in-hospital mortality and 2-year mortality.
