Improvements in air quality over the past 20 years in southern California have been linked to a significant drop in bronchitic symptoms in children with and without asthma, an observational study in JAMA reports.
The prevalence of bronchitic symptoms fell by about 32% in children with asthma and by about 21% in those without asthma. While the study design does not establish causality, the findings support potential benefit of air pollution reduction on asthma control, the researchers concluded.
