Three Australian hospitals have been ranked as amongst the top 100 hospitals for neurology in the world.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital in Parkville (35th place), Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney (96th) and Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney (99th) have been featured in the Newsweek World’s Best Specialized Hospitals for 2025.

Also close behind were the Monash Medical Centre (103), Austin Hospital (107)and The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne (114).

The 2025 leaderboard [link here], created by Newsweek and global market research company Statista, is topped by The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, US, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, US.

The rankings are largely determined (90% weighting) by an international online survey of medical professionals from over 30 countries who give recommendations in their area of expertise.

The scoring model also factors in accreditation data (6.5%) and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs 3.5%).

Hospitals acknowledged for their implementation of PROMs included the Cleveland Clinic and UCLA Health – Ronald Reagan Medical Center in the US, Sweden’s Karolinska Institute, Korea’s Asan and Samsung Medical Centres, and Switzerland’s Universitätsspital Basel

A separate leaderboard for hospitals ranked for neurosurgery also includes The Royal Melbourne Hospital in the top 100.

Beyond that, the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and The Alfred also receive a mention.

The Mayo Clinic, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Massachusetts General Hospital also top the neurosurgery hospitals globally.
