Where do Australian hospitals rank globally for endocrinology?

The Royal Melbourne Hospital has been named among the top 50 hospitals in the world for endocrinology services and the best in Australia.

The World’s Best Specialised Hospital Ranking [link here] by American magazine Newsweek and global data gathering firm Statista ranked the hospital 39th globally for the specialty.

The top two hospitals listed were based in the US, with the third best in South Korea.

  1. Mayo Clinic – Rochester, Minnesota
  2. Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts
  3. Asan Medical Centre, Seoul

The next ‘best’ Australian hospital to feature on the list for endocrinology was the Royal Adelaide Hospital, which was ranked at number 119.

Australian hospitals to feature in the top 150 for endocrinology:

  • Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne (39)
  • Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide (119)
  • The Alfred, Melbourne (135)
  • Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney (145)
  • Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney (147)

The rankings covered the best facilities across 12 different specialties.

These included the top 300 hospitals for cardiology and oncology, the top 250 for paediatrics, the top 150 in each specialty of cardiac surgery, endocrinology, and gastroenterology, the top 125 in each for neurology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, pulmonology, and urology and the top 100 for obstetrics and gynaecology.

The ranking was based on hospital recommendations from medical professionals, publicly available hospital quality metrics, patient experience data and a voluntary patient-reported outcome survey.
