The government has confirmed that 24 ‘obsolete or underused’ MBS items are to be deleted from 1 July. Two diagnostic imaging items will be restricted to patients under 16-years of age.
The deleted MBS items include:
- Graham’s test (cholecystography, X-ray examination of the gallbladder and bile duct) – 58924, 58926
- Pelvimetry – 59503 and 59504
- Peritoneogram: CT scan to diagnose occult hernia – 59760, 59761
- Venography to diagnose DVT – 61465, 61711
- Klockoff’s test – 11321
- Injection of hormones to manage habitual miscarriage – 6504
- Cryotherapy for nasal turbinates and for nasal haemorrhage – 41695, 41680
- Sigmoidoscopy of large intestine and diathermy, removal of polyps – 32078, 32081
- Glossopharyngeal nerve Injection – 18246
- Cryotherapy for nasal haemorrhage – 41680
- Cryotherapy for nasal turbinates – 41695
- Division of pharyngeal adhesions – 41758
- Direct examination of larynx with biopsy – 41761
- Examination of the post nasal space – 41849
- Direct examination of larynx with removal of tumour – 41852
- Gastric hypothermia in the absence of gastrointestinal haemorrhage – 13500
