24 MBS items deleted

The government has confirmed that 24 ‘obsolete or underused’ MBS items are to be deleted from 1 July. Two diagnostic imaging items will be restricted to patients under 16-years of age.

The deleted MBS items include:

  1. Graham’s test (cholecystography, X-ray examination of the gallbladder and bile duct) – 58924, 58926
  2. Pelvimetry – 59503 and 59504
  3. Peritoneogram: CT scan to diagnose occult hernia – 59760, 59761
  4. Venography to diagnose DVT – 61465, 61711
  5. Klockoff’s test – 11321
  6. Injection of hormones to manage habitual miscarriage – 6504
  7. Cryotherapy for nasal turbinates and for nasal haemorrhage – 41695, 41680
  8. Sigmoidoscopy of large intestine and diathermy, removal of polyps – 32078, 32081
  9. Glossopharyngeal nerve Injection – 18246
  10. Cryotherapy for nasal haemorrhage – 41680
  11. Cryotherapy for nasal turbinates – 41695
  12. Division of pharyngeal adhesions – 41758
  13. Direct examination of larynx with biopsy – 41761
  14. Examination of the post nasal space – 41849
  15. Direct examination of larynx with removal of tumour – 41852
  16. Gastric hypothermia in the absence of gastrointestinal haemorrhage – 13500
  17. Gastric hypothermia for upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage – 13503
  18. Sigmoidoscopy for the removal of polyps – 32078, 32081
  19. Injection of hormones to manage habitual miscarriage – 16504
  20. Bronchospirometry for measuring lung function – 11500
