Rheumatologists receive Queen’s birthday honours

Rheumatologists Dr John Edmonds and Dr Prudence Manners are among the many clinicians and researchers recognised for their service in the Queen’s Birthday 2019 Honours List.

Dr Edmonds, from Sydney was awarded a Member (AM) in the General Division “For significant service to rheumatology, and to medical research.”

His research interests included the use of evaluation tools particularly MRI in measuring joint damage progression in RA and ankylosing spondylitis.

He had a long association with the University of New South Wales and St George Hospital where he was a former director of rheumatology.

Dr Edmonds was also a former chairman of St George and Sutherland Medical Research Foundation and former president of the ARA.

Dr Manners, from Perth, was awarded a Member (AM) in the General Division “For significant service to medicine as a paediatric rheumatologist.”

She was an Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia and practised at the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children.

She was a member of the working group who developed the Inflammatory Arthritis Model of Care for WA, which included juvenile idiopathic arthritis along with RA, ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis.

She also contributed to the International League of Associations for Rheumatology classification of juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
