This week EULAR’s annual meeting will be taking place as a virtual ‘E- Congress’ in place of the face-to-face conference in Frankfurt that has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

According to EULAR, the virtual congress will include a mix of live interactive and pre-recorded sessions running from Wednesday 3 June to Saturday 6 June European time), which will also be available on demand for registered delegates until 1 September.

The live sessions will provide the option for participants to engage in texted question and answer sessions with presenters.

The online content will also include online publication of EULAR 2020 abstracts/posters, including many by Australian researchers such as Professor Peter Nash, of Griffith University, Queensland and Professor Eric Morand of Monash University, Victoria.

On Wednesday the live plenary sessions will include presentations of the latest clinical trial results, such as a phase 3 study of upadacitinib versus placebo and adalimumab in patients withPsA and inadequate response to non-biological DMARDS (SELECT-PsA-1) hosted by EULAR president Prof Iain MacInnes.

On Saturday a live session will include updates on the latest EULAR recommendations  including guidelines for:

  • management of RA with synthetic and biological DMARDs, and management of psoriatic arthritis;
  • rheumatic immune-related adverse events due to cancer immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors;
  • interpretation anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) testing;
  • intra-articular treatment for arthropathies.

Other live sessions cover topics as diverse as new treatment options in myositis; management of large vessel vasculitis and aortitis; results from the EULAR COVID Registry, treat-to-target in axSpA; management of large vessel vasculitis and aortitis and novel therapies such as dendritic cells.

The virtual congress is open to registered delegates at a cost of 175 Euros (A$290).
