EULAR says its face-to-face meeting in Frankfurt in June this year will not go ahead and will instead be replaced by a virtual meeting.

The conference programme will be available online from Wednesday 3 June and will be accessible on demand over several months.

EULAR President Iain McInnes said that while the face-to-face meeting was and will remain the ideal format to share knowledge the virtual congress was the best alternative to “keep the spirit of our global rheumatology community alive and to address urgent questions with immediate relevance for patient care.”

The OARSI 2020 world congress, which was due to take place in Vienna next month, has also been cancelled. President Ali Mobasheri said the next congress in 2024 would take place in Vienna but in the meantime the organisation would look at alternative ways to disseminate research which would have been presented at the congress.

At the time of going to press moment, the 22nd APLAR Congress scheduled for Kyoto, Japan from 31 August is going ahead with organisers rather endearingly sending their “thoughts and prayers” to people affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

ACR Convergence 2020, which expects close to 16,000 rheumatologists, rheumatology health professionals, fellows in training, and exhibitors from more than 100 countries at its November meeting in Washington DC, has as yet made no public comment regarding COVID-19.
