The votes are in for TSANZ board

The Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand has voted in a new President Elect and two new members to its board.

Long serving board member Professor Bruce Thompson, head of physiology Services at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne will take over as President of the Society when current incumbent Professor Allan Glanville steps aside next year.

Professor Thompson, who also  holds an adjunct Professor position within the Department of Medicine at Monash University, is a clinical respiratory physiologist  who is well recognised for his work on routine pulmonary function tests and also the clinical translation of new techniques (see our interviews with Professor Thompson here and here).  

He is joined by two new board members Associate Professor Deborah Yates and Dr Andrew Tai. Professor Yates is a senior respiratory physician at St Vincent’s Public Hospital, Sydney, with special interests in cystic lung diseases and occupational lung diseases (read our interviews with Professor Yates here and here).

Dr Tai,  director of the Respiratory and Sleep Department at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide is an active paediatric member of TSANZ as well as Asthma Foundation SA and the ASA.

Professor Hubertus Jersmann was re-elected to the Board for his second term.

Board director Dr John McLachlan will be replaced by Dr Ingrid Laing, a senior research fellow at UWA and Honorary Research Fellow at the Telethon Kids Institute. And Dr Stuart Jones,  a respiratory physician at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, replaces Dr Richard Laing as the New Zealand President on the Board.

Professor Peter Gibson also steps down from the board after completing his presidential term.
