The UK’s clinical advisory body has issued draft guidelines for diagnosis and monitoring of asthma. According to the NICE guideline, which is open for consultation until next month, patients older than 5 years should be offered a fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) test. A bronchodilator reversibility test should be offered to patients with obstructive spirometry findings, and if diagnosis is still uncertain a direct bronchial challenge test should be offered to adults older than 16 years.
