Professor Chris Ward joins ISTH council

Australian haematologist Professor Chris Ward has been elected to the Council of International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH).

He is currently a member of the ISTH education and research committee and was vice president and scientific program co-chair of last year’s ISTH Congress in Melbourne.

Professor Ward is a clinical haematologist in the Department of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital and holds an academic appointment at University of Sydney. 

He leads the Northern Blood Research Centre within the Kolling Institute, where he supervises research groups investigating platelet function disorders, hypercoagulable states including cancer-related thrombosis, myeloproliferative disorders and the development of stem cell-based therapies.

He is also a member of the Asia-Pacific Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (APSTH) council.

Other incoming ISTH councillors are Dr Robert Ariëns (UK), Dr Omolade Awodu (Nigeria), Dr Donna DiMichele (US) and Professor Saskia Middeldorp (The Netherlands).

They will attend their first Council meeting following the ISTH 2020 Virtual Congress (12-14 July).
