New president for ANZSBT

The new president of the Australia and New Zealand Society for Blood Transfusion is Simon Benson, a Senior Scientist with the Transfusion Policy and Education team at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

As incoming president he will hold the post for the next two years, taking over from Dr Gemma Crighton, a haematologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.

“We thank Dr Gemma Crighton for her inspiring and dynamic leadership as President of the ANZSBT during the last two years. During this time she has implemented many new changes and improvements  to the Society. We also thank her for her commitment to Council since 2014 and wish her all the best in the future,” the ANZSBT said in a statement.

Simon Benson trained as a Biomedical Scientist in the UK and his interests include adverse transfusion events and haemovigilance.
