Six Australian hospitals have ranked in the Newsweek/Statista top 200 for specialised oncology centres worldwide.

They are the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Queensland, the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Westmead Hospital in NSW, and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Austin Hospital and The Alfred in Victoria.

The rankings are based solely on peer recommendations for specific areas of expertise from a global survey of medical professionals.

The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre was the top ranked Australian oncology centre in position 22.

The US scooped the top four centres worldwide with the MD Anderson Cancer Centre, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Mayo Clinic – Rochester.

The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital also ranked for both cardiology and endocrinology, Westmead for endocrinology, and The Alfred for cardiology.

He said being named alongside international powerhouses such as the Mayo Clinic cemented their status on the international stage.
