After initially being cancelled due to COVID-19, GESA’s annual scientific meeting, Australian Gastroenterology Week (AGW 2020), will run as a virtual conference in November.

The GESA AGW Virtual 2020 program is expected to run for several from Saturday 21 November 2020 covering a wide range of topics in gastroenterology and hepatology for which it is now inviting abstract submissions.

The face to face meeting had originally been scheduled for Sunday 31 August, to Tuesday, 1 September 2020 at the Melbourne Convention Centre, but like almost all other medical conferences was cancelled in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the time GESA announced that the next annual conference would be held in Brisbane in September 2021.

However the organising committee says it is now delighted to announce a virtual program for this year.

“While there are some elements of GESA AGW we will not be able to offer this year, there are many that we are able to bring to you. GESA AGW Virtual 2020 will consist of live stream webinars, on demand sessions and educational modules.

The virtual meeting will include paper presentations, digital posters, industry symposia and the GESA AGM and Town Hall meeting.

The virtual program, which is to be released shortly will also include prizes and awards, Young Investigator Award (YIA) abstracts and faculty State-of-the-Art lectures.
