Vitamin waters guilty of nutrient overload

Vitamin waters and energy drinks are packed with micronutrients that consumers don’t actually need, Canadian research confirms. Micronutrients vitamins B6, B12 and niacin were the most common added nutrients despite young adults — the likely target group for these products — already consuming them in adequate amounts. Product labels  often promoted performance and emotional benefits related to the nutrients that went beyond conventional nutritional science, the authors said. Changes to labelling regulations  in Canada appear to have had little impact on nutrient composition or marketing, they said.
