Approval for first glucose monitoring app

Type 1 diabetes

27 Jan 2015

People with diabetes will now be able to securely share data from their continuous glucose monitor with other people in real-time, following the approval of a mobile app.

The first mobile medical app to be approved by the FDA, the G4 Platinum Continuous Glucose Monitoring System uses a small sensor inserted underneath the skin to transmit data by a secure wireless connection. That information can then be remotely tracked by up to 5 designated recipients, the company said in a press release.

“This innovative technology has been eagerly awaited by the diabetes community, especially caregivers of children with diabetes who want to monitor their glucose levels remotely,” the company said in a statement.
