Nintendos are responsible for an array of injuries ranging from mild to life threatening, a review of the literature shows.  The team of researchers who gathered information on all nintendo related injuries found excessive game play with traditional controllers is associated with tendinitis of the thumb; the Nintendo 64 joystick can lead to palmar ulceration; and the motion sensitive Wii remote can cause musculoskeletal problems and various traumas, including one case of haemothorax after a woman fell on her sofa while playing Wii tennis. The authors advise those who receive a gaming device this Christmas to not swing the controller too hard, be careful about where they play, and take frequent breaks.
