What’s it like to live as a First Nation young person with type 2 diabetes in a remote province of Canada?

A group of young people involved in a study run by the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba have made a powerful video about the stigma they experience in their community.

In Manitoba the annual incidence rate of childhood-onset type 2 diabetes is 25 per 100,000 children – 20 fold higher than other provinces across Canada.

Paediatric endocrinologist Dr Brandy Wicklow was speaking at the ADS /ADEA joint symposium on Indigenous health on the intergenerational impact of type 2 diabetes on First Nations Families.
