No benefit from sodium bicarbonate, acetylcysteine after angiography: PRESERVE

The use of IV sodium bicarbonate or acetylcysteine in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing angiography does not improve outcomes, a trial presented at the AHA congress concludes.

The PRESERVE trial was conducted at 53 sites in Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand and the United States. Patients qualified for inclusion if they had stage 3 or 4 CKD or less severe CKD with diabetes.
