Many barriers exist to studying rare diseases but researchers have shown there are promising research strategies that are gaining interest, particularly around randomised trials. Awareness of these research tools will help investigators design studies in patients with specific rare diseases and assist clinicians in interpreting the results of these studies when treating patients with these conditions, the researchers say in their review of the literature.
