JIA and osteoporosis added to MSK diseases list

The AIHW website has added JIA and osteoporosis to its list of musculoskeletal conditions it monitors. The latest snapshot data on the conditions highlights that:

  • 1 in 1,000 children aged between o-15 have JIA;
  • 13 times more biologics were prescribed for juvenile arthritis in 2013–14, compared with 2004–05;
  • Five times more women aged 50 or over have osteoporosis or osteopenia compared to men; and
  • The rate of hospitalisation for minimal trauma fracture for women aged 50 or over was 290 per 100,000 people compared with men (162 per 100,000).
